Fair Pay campaign
We will be holding Fair Pay rallies in Cork, Dublin and Sligo on Saturday 6th June 2015 to highlight the low wages of early childhood professionals who support children and parents during this key foundation stage of development.
We are demanding that the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Public Expenditure substantially increase funding to ensure that all children, from birth to six years, benefit from high quality early childhood education and care and that all Early Childhood Practitioners receive pay and conditions that are commensurate with their role as professionals.
Parents cannot afford to pay more for early childhood education and care but neither can the professionals continue subsidising the true cost by virtue of low wages.
Many, if not most, owner-practitioners are struggling to keep their heads above water and cannot afford to pay their staff much more than minimum wage due to the high cost of providing quality early childhood education and care.
Without a significant increase in government investment quality will be compromised as we continue to lose qualified, experienced staff and high quality centres throughout the country. Our current staffing crisis will worsen and this will have a direct impact on children and their families.
Block this date in your diary and register your attendance. Encourage your colleagues, service users, families and friends to attend. #payusourworth.
